The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate your understanding of multidimensional data and to test your ability to parse complex relationships between multiple dimensions of data.
Visualize at least three dimensions of the data contained in either the African Names data set which has already been parsed for Gephi (date and gender) by Professor Faull, or you may select your own dataset. If you choose the latter option, your independent work will be evaluated accordingly, i.e. you will get extra credit.
Produce a network diagram in Gephi that reveals the statistical calculations of 1) modularity and 2) degree. You may take a series of screenshots in “overview” that reveal the steps you have taken. You should try to use filters to create more focused network visualizations.
You will also write a 400-word blog post to accompany your Gephi visualizations. This blog post reflects on the process you have gone through to learn Gephi, learn what it can and cannot do, what worked and what did not. You will incorporate your reading of Lima and Graham into your blog post with at least two quotations from each author. Submit your post under category “Assignment 5.”
